How did Concrete Coast Clothing\u00a0get into this business?
\nI was always interested in starting a clothing brand and wanted to<\/strong>
\n create a company (Concrete Coast Clothing)\u00a0that would focus on design, rather than repeating the<\/strong>
\n logo over and over again in different fonts and colors. When I set out<\/strong>
\n to design shirts, I come up with a cool idea, tweak it until I love it<\/strong>
\n and can’t wait to wear it, then add a logo somewhere into the design<\/strong>
\n just so it does have some brand identity. The logo is always the last<\/strong>
\n part of any design.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When you were a little kid, what did you want to be when you grew up
\nI always wanted to be an animator and create cartoons for TV.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a clothing brand where does Concrete Coast Clothing<\/span>\u00a0you get your inspiration for designs?
\nWhat kind of thought process goes into the Concrete Coast Clothing collection?
\n My inspiration comes from everyday life and the sports that I love. I<\/strong>
\n grew up skateboarding in Colorado and still skate regularly. I’ve<\/strong>
\n always loved surfing, though being from Colorado doesn’t give me much<\/strong>
\n of a chance to surf a lot. I have a serious love for the ocean, waves,<\/strong>
\n and coast in general. I try to incorporate these elements into my<\/strong>
\n designs.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>How does Concrete Coast Clothing<\/span><\/a>\u00a0feel about “Brand Jacking” where a brand mimics the\u00a0designs of another brand?<\/p>\n

I’m not a fan unless it’s used in a humorous way. I think that coming<\/strong>
\n up with original art should be a brand’s main focus. Too many<\/strong>
\n companies are doing the same things and somehow are succeeding at it.<\/strong>
\n My belief is that if you stick to what you love, you’re brand will<\/strong>
\n grow and stand out. Just look at some of the top lines out there and<\/strong>
\n you’ll notice that most have their own thing going on. That’s why I<\/strong>
\n stick with my vision with Concrete Coast Clothing, and hold it true to the<\/strong>
\n slogan, “A Lifestyle, Not a Label.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

How did you come up with the name Concrete Coast Clothing? What does Concrete Coast Clothing\u00a0mean
\nor stand for?
\nConcrete Coast Clothing<\/a> has several different meanings. Concrete refers to<\/strong>
\n skating, and Coast refers to wave sports. But it also means that you<\/strong>
\n can have the coast anywhere where there is concrete. Skateboarding is<\/strong>
\n a sport that lets you have access to a surf lifestyle anywhere where<\/strong>
\n there is some pavement. To some people it just refers to board sports<\/strong>
\n in general. To me it encompasses several major passions that define my<\/strong>
\n lifestyle.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the explosion of social media, what does Concrete Coast Clothing\u00a0do to build
\nbrand exposure? What social network is most important to Concrete Coast Clothing?<\/p>\n

Facebook is the most important source for Concrete Coast Clothing. It makes it<\/strong>
\n easy to share my vision and get feedback on new designs. I also<\/strong>
\n regularly do shirt giveaways on facebook for people that share the<\/strong>
\n post. I also run a twitter account to share cool industry news for<\/strong>
\n skating and surfing, and promotions for the website.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is one style from the past that you wish was still popular?
\n Smaller\/simpler designs. I feel like the trend is all-over huge<\/strong>
\n prints now, and typically these are done in uncomfortable plastisol<\/strong>
\n inks. This type of style is doesn’t breathe well on hot days, and<\/strong>
\n since most designs lately consist largely of branding, they make you<\/strong>
\n into a walking billboard. That’s why I’ve taken the opposite approach<\/strong>
\n with Concrete Coast Clothing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is a current trend that Concrete Coast Clothing\u00a0cannot stand?
\nLogo designs, or designs that repeat the brands name over and over.<\/strong>
\n To me these are just trendy for lazy brands and are not art. I like<\/strong>
\n shirts that show a vision and let the wearer share a little bit about<\/strong>
\n who they are simply by wearing the shirt.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Snapback or Fitted? Why?
\n Fitted. It’s always been my style.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Low tops or High Tops? Why?
\nLow tops, high tops make my feet too hot when I skate and feel<\/strong>
\n clunky.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What are your thoughts on todays street wear scene?
\nI like the direction some brands are heading with very detailed and<\/strong>
\n unique prints. I think with DTG printing becoming better all the time<\/strong>
\n it’s allowing more and more people to create true artwork with lots of<\/strong>
\n color on a budget. Though I feel like too many companies are copying<\/strong>
\n each other.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What does Concrete Coast Clothing\u00a0see for the future of this industry?
\nI see shirts becoming more and more artistic, and people looking for<\/strong>
\n custom designs. Limited print runs seem to be taking off as well for<\/strong>
\n smaller companies because people are striving to wear shirts that are<\/strong>
\n unique.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a brand, What is one of the best things Concrete Coast Clothing loves\u00a0about being in this industry?
\nOne of the best things it seeing people wearing our Concrete Coast Clothing designs! It’s<\/strong>
\n really cool to see something you created on someone you don’t even<\/strong>
\n know. I also love being able to do something different than what other<\/strong>
\n companies are doing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is one of the worst things about this industry?
\nIt’s a highly competitive industry that is tough to break into. I<\/strong>
\n know Concrete Coast Clothing will make it, and it’s going to take some serious<\/strong>
\n work to stand out above the rest.<\/strong><\/p>\n

How would you quickly describe your past 5 years in one short
\nsentence.
\nProfessional action sports photography, marriage, starting a clothing<\/strong>
\n company and keeping the photography rolling!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n8-10 hours<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nHippytree really stands out to me as a great brand with a consistent<\/strong>
\n image and devoted following. Young and Reckless is exploding as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you had to give up your brand today and go work for a fast food
\njoint, which fast food joint would it be?
\nSmashburger.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What was your first job?
\nBike Shop Mechanic.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What will see coming from Concrete Coast Clothing\u00a0in the future?
\nLots of new designs to come from Concrete Coast Clothing, more hoodies, beanies, eventually getting into<\/strong>
\n button-up shirts, shorts, and pants. All 100% Made in USA to save on<\/strong>
\n resources and ensure ethical working conditions for all production.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the opinion of Concrete Coast Clothing what trends will be big in 2013 \/ 2014?
\nBright colors and all-over printing will continue to be big.<\/strong><\/p>\n
