Apart from those threatened by the Mayan prediction of mass deaths and total anarchy in 2012, many people such as myself have actually welcomed this year with open arms. I mean it’s gonna suck to listen to all those political ads all summer, but we do have the Summer Olympics to keep us occupied while dodging the summer sun! These London games couldn’t have come during a better year for basketball fans such as myself who still feel a little cheated by the NBA lockout earlier this year. While basketball is my most anticipated USA team to follow I’ll definitely be checking for boxing, swimming, mountain biking and football (as defined by everyone in the world accept Americans).
As much as the games and competitions themselves, I always anticipate the gear clothing brands drop to coincide with the Olympic summer games. Sports brands like Nike and Adidas have always come with the dope Olympic inspired gear, and with their respective Letterman and track jacket offerings 2012 is no different.
Also no stranger to Olympic inspired gear US dope boy fan favorite Ralph Lauren has come with a London inspired polo shirt for players of all games to rock this 2012 summer.
Over the past few years this fusion of fashion and the worldwide gaming tradition has expanded from long time traditionalist staples like Nike, Adidas and Ralph Lauren to newer contemporary street wear brands.
One of my personal favorite Olympic inspired offerings this spring/ summer has been the Grand Tour SS polo, and tank top by LRG. Inspired by the traditional cyclist tank both of these will make sure riders are pedaling in style this summer.
Another dope Olympic inspired drop was made by 8and9 clothing with the release of their Gold Medal tee. With the 6 enclosed Olympic rings full frontal across the chest this tee is perfect no matter what country of origin you’re representing.
Fairly new to the streetwear scene Rocksmith Clothing has jumped into the game face first, producing one dope offering after another for the past few seasons. Recently they teamed up with hip-hop clothing staple Wu-wear to produce the brands official Wu-tang Clan gear. This spring they released the Cream Team tee which is sure to be a must have for anyone who likes stacking fat rubber band wads of cash as much as they like watching old Dream Team highlights from the 1992 summer basketball games.
While all of the above mentioned gear is very noteworthy what may be the most anticipated release by hip-hop heads, hoopers, ballers of all sorts and all around fly individuals is the Air Jordan VI and VII releases this summer. The VI’s drop July 7, 2012 and the sevens drop later that month on the 21st. A special edition Gold pack with one of each style will drop on August 18th right in time for all the back to school madness.
