From BMW’s future thinking BMWi division comes the i8 Concept Spyder, an open-air coupe that does more than just look the part of the future automobile – it’s got the parts under the hood to back it up. With a combination of 96 kw electric and three-cylinder gas engines, this sharply designed car boasts more than 78 miles per gallon on the highway, a fact that’s sure to cure any gas pump woes. This car isn’t just environmentally conscious, it’s fast and smart, featuring a respectable 354 horsepower and the ability to switch between front-wheel, rear-wheel and all-wheel drive depending on road conditions. Although this concept isn’t meant to be driven by the general public, this intelligent design inches ever closer to the future of automobile travel, a field which BMWi certainly seems to be pioneering.
