This dude is off the chains! Back in August, Saint Louis Police were left lookin real stupid by the largest cash heist in the city’s history when 4 heavily armed men tied up the guards at an ATM Solutions building, jacked several containers full of money, stole one of the companies armored trucks, loaded it up, and made off with what reports have estimated as anywhere from $9M to $11M in cold hard cash. The following day, a “suspicious vehicle” was seen driving around the crime scene. Police attempted to pull it over, but the driver would not stop. A high speed chase ensued, the suspect eventually crashed his car, and in doing so, busted open an entire trunk full of money! He fled on foot, but was unable to escape this time, and was apprehended with a semi-automatic pistol in addition to the estimated $1.25M that was in the trunk of his car. The suspect, John Wesley Jones, pictured above, was denied bail on the grounds that he was a “flight risk” and was sent to Lincoln County Jail to await his trial. He has been there since. That is until early Monday morning….
When jailors went to do a routine head count at 7:15 monday morning, John Wesley Jones and another inmate who was being held on weapons and drug charges were nowhere to be found. Upon investigation it is believed that the pair somehow got on the roof of the building and made the 30 foot descent to freedom at around 3:30 AM, and were gone for almost 4 hours before anyone even knew they were missing! Once again police are scratching their heads in bewilderment. The Sheriff’s department has offered little or no explanation as to how these two men managed to escape without a trace, not to mention having a four hour head start to work with. A truck was found that it is believed they stole and abandoned, but as of Tuesday the manhunt continues.
