As AMC’s “Breaking Bad” nears the midpoint of its fifth and final season, fans can’t help but cringe yet watch in fascination as characters evolve, innocent victims die and relationships crumble. L.A.’s own Gallery1988 Melrose teamed up with Sony to launch a four-month “Breaking Gifs” marketing campaign, and the culmination of the TV-centric art project is now on display at the gallery.
“The Breaking Bad Art Project,” presented by Breaking Gifs, opened to the public Monday, August 20, and will remain on view daily from 11am to 6pm through Sunday, August 26. All 17 limited edition screenprints along with new original artwork inspired by the hit television drama Breaking Bad adorn the gallery, tickling Walter White, Skyler White, Jesse Pinkman, Marie Schrader, Hank Schrader, Mike Ehrmantraut and Saul Goodman enthusiasts pink.
Participating artists include: Jonathan Way$hack, Ken Garduno, Mike Mitchell, Travis Louie, Kyle Norris, Pretty in Plastic, Aled Lewis, Carlos East of The Beast Brothers, Bennett Slater, Jesse Riggle, Brad Hill, Casey Weldon, Glen Brogan, JoKa, Nicole Guice, Kiersten Essenpreis, Matt Taylor, Mayra Fersner, Scott Derby, Ian Glaubinger, Michelle Coffee, Rich Pellegrino, Joey Spiotto, Lora Zombie, Marz Jr. and Jon Defreest.
A few key members of the breaking bad cast—including actors Bryan Cranston, Betsy Brandt, Bob Odenkirk and RJ Mitte—and show creator Vince Gilligan stopped by Gallery1988 Melrose’s preview Saturday night, “which was awesome,” said the gallery. Check out the photo of the celebrated creatives here.
A portion of the breaking bad show’s proceeds—20 percent— will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
And fans, as a heads up: The current 16-episode season has been chopped in half, with the final eight episodes premiering in summer 2013. Episode 6 aired Sunday. We know, it’s devastating.
