The Yellow Album
Well summertime is in full swing, the whole country has had weeks of 100+ degree weather, the 2012 Olympics are days from popping off in London but whats got me hype more than all of that put together is the new music that’s dropped these last couple of months. Around at the Dropcents office our summer playlist is consisting of a lot of Big KRIT, Currensy, Pusha-T, and Don Trip. But our most recent addition to the roster has been joints off of The Yellow Album by Dom Kennedy. If you haven’t heard it yet do yourself and your summer a favor and go grab it.
Dom managed to produce a compilation that sounds like the future direction of hip-hop but somehow makes me feel like I’m in a LA house party in the early 90’s drinking 40s, smoking chronic, playing dominos while macking on a chic rocking door knockers, biking shorts and dookie braids (At the same damn time). The Yellow Album is 13 tracks and 5 features of heat. Some of the most notable features coming from Rick Ross (Gold Alpinas) and Too Short (Don’t Call Me). But don’t worry “The Yellow Album” isn’t one of those releases where the main attractions is overshadowed by features.
On “My Type of Party”, the first single off of The Yellow Album, Dom stretches his slow flow over an unorthodox party track that encompasses this new west/old west fusion that he’s come to master. Peep the visuals for it below.
And just in case you’re just getting hip to Dom let me give you a little pre “The Yellow Album” background exposure to ketchup on…
Be on the look out for more visuals from The Yellow Album this summer, I know a lot of people are looking for “Gold Alpinas” are either “We Ball” featuring Kendrick Lamar to be next, we’ll see…
